  • Just a quick check-in from the mom, here!  I know it's been almost forever since I posted, but I'm going to just jump right in, instead of trying to catch up.
I have a had a busy week, as usual--enjoyed finishing planting garden (the corn and beans), got some broccoli (64 heads for $12) from a local salvage store and put most of it in the freezer--35 qts.  Monday we also picked our first strawberries--enough for strawberry shortcake at Bible study, and have been getting two big bowls full every other day.  I put 3 cool-whip dishes of them in the freezer tonight, plus we had strawberries on waffles this morning, strawberry delight in the fridge for Sunday dinner, and some saved to go on homemade ice cream
Had a fun morning with my hubby today-- we had planned to go to a monthly flea market at nearby Rutledge.  Since it was raining, we easily convinced the children to stay home .  We were particularly looking for a push mower, for the hills/ditches in and below our yard.  We found one!  because it was rainy, not many people showed up (even though it had quit till we got there), and we got some good deals.  I got a hot water bath canner, an ice-cream freezer, a fish-frying pan for my outdoor cooker ($5!!!!!), a mixer, an electric deep fryer, and a garden hoe for each of my two oldest daughters (the narrow kind I like, and at 1/4 of the price of new ones!!!!). In fact, what I saved on the hoes, which we really needed, more than covered what the other stuff cost.  Since we don't often go to that kind of place, I was happy to go alone with my hubby and get some real bargains, to boot!  Thanks, God, for an unusual day, with little blessings of provisions.
Now off to bed, morning comes early, and I'm not done studying to teach Sunday School.
Not even taking time to proofread, so hope it's readable.

  • In Loving Memory

Jim's oldest brother, Delbert, finally ended his fight with cancer last Thursday, May 14, and passed peacefully into glory.  He first learned that he had cancer in 2001, and has had varying degrees of pain/sickness ever since.  His last year was especially painful, and he was finally confined to bed/wheelchair, and could do nothing for himself.  He had his 53rd  birthday in January.  The funeral was held Monday in his home church in Sparta, MI (near Grand Rapids), and then we transported his body 3 ½ hours north to AuGres for a graveside memorial in the family burial plot.  We are very thankful for Delbert’s church family, who were the family to him that we could not be because of distance.  We also thank everyone else who had a part either in his care or supported the family in his passing with either prayers or other kind deeds—food, lodging, visitation, or flowers.

We are glad to be home again, and hope to be able to get over here to our website more often to keep everyone up to date.  The children and I have been gone for most of the month of May, so we are very glad to be home.

    Florida!!!

Well, I had half of a post typed up, but then I accidentally bumped the power switch on the computer and I lost it(My post that is). Oh well...We are in Florida and having a very enjoyable, busy, time.
We left Friday morning around 7:00 in the morning and had smooth riding all day. the only trouble we had was finding a hotel. Mom thought it was exhausting, I thought it was kind of fun. A van of children and a Mom, two females in the front seat, (one being the expert navigator[me of course--although the 'expert' part is questionable] ), a big(for us) city, and full hotels. Quite an adventure if you ask me. We did eventually find a hotel and had a nice night. We left around 9:30 the next day and drove til we got to Grandma's house around 7:00. The only mishap we had on Saturday was taking a wrong exit in Birmingham, but we got back o track very quickly. Our trip went veeery smooth--it could not have been better! I seriously think that the children have never been so well-behaved on a trip! Thank you to all of you who prayed!!
Since getting here we have been pretty busy. Sunday was church in the morning and evening, and in the afternoon Melody and I were at our friends Susan and Beth's house. Monday we(Susan and Beth D, Hannah R, Ashleigh H, Twila H and her children, Grandma, and our family) went to the beach!! We brought matching clothes and Twila took pictures of us girls. Thank you Twila!!!

After we left the beach Grandma took us to Coldstone Creamery for ice cream. Yum!!!

That night Melo spent the night with hannah and Beth at hannah's house, and Susan, Ashliegh and I were together at Susan's house. Talk about fun!! I don't know what the younger girls did, but we watched 'It's A Wonderful Life', then did some very girly things(we painted our nails), and then played Clue until 1:00. It was about 2:00 til we went to sleep though. The next morning was Sewing, so we had to get up at 7:00 and quickly dress and eat breakfast. We were kind of half asleep for a while.
We were at sewing most of the day Tuesday. I actually got more sun holding babies and watching children outside Tuesday, then I did at the beach Monday! Tuesday afternoon Mom and I went into town for a chiropractic adjustment and some (not so)quick errands.
Today we were helping Jessica most of the day. I was working on getting a song for her powerpoint...took a little while. This afternoon mom, jessica, and I went into town for a while. By the time we got back it was time to get ready for church and have supper! Now we are home from church eating ice cream. Mom and Grandpa are over at Jessica and Justin's house helping them get it cleaned up so they can move in. I take that back--they just drove in.
I ought to go as it is past 9:00. I'm sure we'll get more pictures, but the next few days promise to be busy, so you may not see them til we get back. Until then, bye!
    Smiling for Jesus,
    TanyaBeth

EDIT: I found more pictures!!! Right now I am holding a peeping newborn chick. I tried to get some pictures of him(her?) too, but it was too dark in the back porch. I'll have to try again later.

    Coming home from the beach

Some of the children at sewing. They were so cute!

Well I'm still catching up on my sleep, so I'd better go. (Mom says to say that she says I must go to bed now! )  I am trying to decide whether I will set the alarm, or sleep til 9:00 like I did this morning. That was sooo nice. I haven't slept that late in forever. So I haven't decided whether I will be responsible and get up on time, or if I will be practical and catch up on my sleep. Either way, I need to go.
    'Night!

  • On the mend

(she seems to be being a bit goofy here--but here she is)
Katrina seems to be doing fine.  Her right thumb got in the van door; she closed it on herself, somehow, and it just decapitated it, somehow.  The piece that came off wasn't big enough to sew back on, but it should grow back somewhat.  They put a piece of cellulose (plant fiber) material that helps it to scab/grow over on it, since it was a big open hole, and it will somewhat absorb into the skin, from what I understand.  It was one of those cases where you really don't know what to do--we did go to the Dr office first, and they didn't want to treat it; if it would get infected later on, or made it hard for her to write, we would have felt bad if we hadn't taken her in.
So that is a praise--except for the bill that I know will soon arrive--but please continue to pray for us as a family. I have felt very overwhelmed this week, even before this happened. It seems that Satan is trying to discourage us.  I have felt closer to depression this week than I ever remember in my life.  Finances, relationships, school, work, church, . . .yeah, it just all has been very heavy.  So please pray for us extra hard right now.  I am trying to keep my focus on God and His plan, and reminding myself why we are here.
Not that there haven't been bright spots in my week.  I forgot that I wanted to mention that I thank God for a really nice time with the Fox family ladies.  Their son has been attending Bible study.  Their store burned several weeks ago, and Tanya and I got to spend the day yesterday bagging up bulk foods for the new store which will be opening soon.  I really enjoyed the time with them, and hope to go again one day next week.  I told them it was like "playing store"--bagging up and pricing all those foods : )  Anyhow, that was the bright spot in my otherwise depressing and trying week.
That, and time spent tying up loose ends with Jessica's wedding.  Only 3 weeks away!!!! : )
We'll see many of ya'll soon!

  • Another ER trip

So like Mom and all of the others were at our old church cleaning while I'm at home doing school. And...like my sister(Mel) calls me and tells me what I think is supposed to be a joke(it wasn't). My smallest sister got her thumb pinched in a door(Not sure if it as the church door or the van door) and the top part of it came off. So when Mel called they were on their way to the ER with the part that had got pinched off on ice. I guess we'll see what happens. Mel said that she wasn't crying or anything; she just kind of whimpered at first and then was just gritting her teeth when she called. And with Trina, that's gotta be bad. She is normally very vocal about her pain. So I'll update ya'll later when I know more. Right now I have Algebra and lunch to attend to.
