Found--one lost xanga blogger

Hi,
Wow, it's been weeks --make that months--since I've sat here to read or write.  I had hoped to at least sit and read everybody's doings every couple days, but it hasn't happened.

Let's see--this week started out with a great day of worship on Sunday, with Hymn sing in the evening.  Then Monday, our church had a picnic and ball game in the afternoon and evening.  We had grilled chicken and played about 6 hours of ball!  (The kids were moaning and groaning about being sore for a couple of days!)  At last count, we served 50-60 people. It was a lot of fun!

Then Tues was back to school.  This year we are pretty much doing nothing but school all day.  Not sure why it's taking so much time, except that everyone is doing all their work, and doing it well.  I have a reward system in place to encourage them not to dawdle, so it's not that they're wasting time.  This year we have grades ranging from Kindergarten to 11th grade, and I confess, I feel more busy than I ever have.  When school starts, I have almost no break from people handing me this or that to check, to explain, to file!  Jim is also helping more with the checking of tests, etc.  The children do check some of their work, but there are always paragraphs and sentences, etc, that need a teacher to look at them.  Must admit, I have had some ambivalent emotions the last 3 weeks.  Much prayer and closet time, and I feel the Lord just keeps meeting me and giving me just the words I need to hear, whether through a familiar scripture, or a homeschool email!

Wed. was family night, since we had moved church to Thurs this week.  It was so nice out, we moved our card games outside and played till dark. Had a good time holding my 4 year old on my lap and enjoying our family.

Thurs is drama class day.  We are so thankful for this opportunity--and it is working to just make that our only afternoon out of the house.  We put supper in the crockpot or oven, and we get groc, go to the library, etc.

Today  was a very restful day.  We had a full house at church this morning --so glad for the new families that keep finding their way to our doors-- then came home to rest.  Then the weather was so lovely again, that we decided to go have a hot dog roast and hike at Thousand Hills state park in Kirksville.  It's unique feature is a room of original Indian carvings on stones.  Had hot dogs, s'mores, and popcorn over the fire and read "Looking for Home" on the way there and back.

Well, it's time for bed.  I didn't get school stuff laid out tonight because we took off, so it's "up and at 'em" earlier than usual tomorrow!

See ya!

ahhhh!

Wow, so much to say-so little time.  I decided this warrants more than a facebook entry--

We had the wonderful privilege of attending the BMA convention in Goshen, IN this past weekend.  I can't begin to put in words what going to a conference like that is like, but it is so wonderful to be encouraged, challenged, refreshed, convicted.  I am always amazed at how God puts people in our path that we can identify with from various aspects.  Highlights:  the wonderful sound of 1100 people singing #606; having Allen Roth lean over us and pray a spontaneous prayer of blessing over us and the work of God here in Downing; talking with other missionaries, and being encouraged that every relationship nurtured makes an eternal difference.  Convicted:  to reorganize my priorities so that at the end of the day I have counted for God, both with my family and with those people God has placed in my path that need mentoring; to de-clutter my life and my home so that I am free to serve; to keep my home-business as a ministry, and trust God with the profit side of it.

We arrived home yesterday afternoon--after spending Sun night at Darryl and Rhoda's in IL.  It was actually the second time in two weeks, and I feel like I could enjoy getting in the habit of going over there every other Sun. night! (Of course she spoils us--cook-out one time, and pizza and homemade ice cream the next) So good to connect!

I felt like a Mom taking her kindergartner to school today.  My oldest child went to her first job today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I guess I'm getting old.  At least she didn't cry : ).  We are so privileged for her to be able to work in a Christian grocery store, where the owners and all the workers are Christian; no flirty high school boys to harass her, and lots of opportunity to meet other Mennonite girls and grow friendships with them.  And they  called us and wanted to know if she would work; we didn't even know they needed help.  I drive her about 7 miles (closest town is 12 mi.) and she rides the other 30 or so with another girl or two.   She will work Tues and Fri, and be gone from 7 to 7.   I talked to her at noon, and she was really enjoying it.

The rest of us have been working on our very abundant bean crop--we picked last Thurs for the first time and got 2 5-gal buckets, plus Darin & Novalee graciously came and picked the rest and got another pail plus 2 gro. bags.  They picked Sat while we were gone, and then we got another 3 and a half buckets last night and today.  We've not had beans for several years (at least not even close to enough) so are very grateful.  May try to get enough for two years and not plant any next year.  Plus I think Yvonne and Novalee could both use some yet.

Well, I am ready for a nap--late nights and early days all weekend.  but so worth it.

Blessings to you all,

Dorcas for the 'Trubers

Just a quick check-in from the mom, here!  I know it's been almost forever since I posted, but I'm going to just jump right in, instead of trying to catch up.
I have a had a busy week, as usual--enjoyed finishing planting garden (the corn and beans), got some broccoli (64 heads for $12) from a local salvage store and put most of it in the freezer--35 qts.  Monday we also picked our first strawberries--enough for strawberry shortcake at Bible study, and have been getting two big bowls full every other day.  I put 3 cool-whip dishes of them in the freezer tonight, plus we had strawberries on waffles this morning, strawberry delight in the fridge for Sunday dinner, and some saved to go on homemade ice cream
Had a fun morning with my hubby today-- we had planned to go to a monthly flea market at nearby Rutledge.  Since it was raining, we easily convinced the children to stay home .  We were particularly looking for a push mower, for the hills/ditches in and below our yard.  We found one!  because it was rainy, not many people showed up (even though it had quit till we got there), and we got some good deals.  I got a hot water bath canner, an ice-cream freezer, a fish-frying pan for my outdoor cooker ($5!!!!!), a mixer, an electric deep fryer, and a garden hoe for each of my two oldest daughters (the narrow kind I like, and at 1/4 of the price of new ones!!!!). In fact, what I saved on the hoes, which we really needed, more than covered what the other stuff cost.  Since we don't often go to that kind of place, I was happy to go alone with my hubby and get some real bargains, to boot!  Thanks, God, for an unusual day, with little blessings of provisions.
Now off to bed, morning comes early, and I'm not done studying to teach Sunday School.
Not even taking time to proofread, so hope it's readable.
